And every time you wind me up – I dance or Cécile Coil, 2005
Performance (video camera, video projector, video recorder, VHS tape, electric wire, sound amplification system, swivel chair, music box)
text
The performance has two phases. First, the action: Cécile is tied up with a long electric wire and, thus, transformed into a human coil. This coil, which acts as a primitive microphone, is now connected to an audio amplifier. The whole scene is recorded on VHS tape. Second, the diffusion: The recording is stopped and the video recorder is fastened tightly against the human coil. The tape is played back reversely and the coil picks up the sound of the electromagnetic operations of the video recorder. The video is projected "around" the performers and shows the preparations for capturing the sound.
